Due to the impacts from Hurricane Ida, we are currently assessing the damage to the physical structure of both the New Orleans and Houma campuses in an effort to prepare students and staff to return to school once critical resources are restored. We anticipate a tentative return date of October 4, 2021; however, that date could change as we continue to receive information and updates. In addition, we understand that this natural disaster may have caused many of you to evacuate your home and/or you are likely experiencing the widespread electricity and water outages, causing you to be unable to continue your education with Unitech upon our anticipated return date.
Unitech Training Academy will continue to provide you with assistance to continue with quality education, and it is our priority to help you meet your current educational needs. Due to the extreme circumstances, we have listed four possible options for you to choose from moving forward:
Option A: Continue your education with Unitech
Classes will resume on approximately October 4, 2021 (subject to be extended as necessary). Unitech Corporate Office will be contacting you to confirm this date and keep you updated on any changes moving forward.
Option B: Leave of Absence
Hurricane Ida has caused you to temporarily be unable to resume your education due to computer and/or Wi-Fi access and/or lack of electricity and water, but you have the intention to return to the Houma or New Orleans campus. This will pause your educational track for a period of time to be decided on between you and a Unitech representative.
Option C: Unitech Campus Transfer
Permanent relocation to another Unitech Training Academy campus. Students must be in close enough proximity to travel to the campus to perform scheduled lab skills, as needed.
Financial Aid will be transferred to the campus you attend.
Option D: Withdraw as a Unitech Student
If you are moving to an area without a Unitech Training Academy location, and you are not planning to return to the Louisiana area.
Government Loan forgiveness is unavailable because the Houma and New Orleans Unitech campuses will not be closing permanently.
Michelle Phelps, Corporate Associate Director of Financial Aid, will be in touch with you if you choose this option.
The Unitech Corporate Office will be contacting you within the next few days. We will provide answers to your questions and guide you through this transition. Until then, please feel free to contact the Corporate Education Department with your questions and concerns. We are here to support you, and look forward to seeing you at the Houma or New Orleans campus very soon!
